What a difference 10 years makes! The Lower East Side (LES) was home to countless immigrants during the huge growth period of New York City during the 19th and 20th Centuries. Although many reminders and charm remain, this area has become the center for hipsters of all ages over the past 10 years. As Prices skyrocketed during 80's and 90's, many who were pioneers in the Village and Soho were priced out of the market and moved East. What once was a lower income area has become gentrified, renovated, and renewed. Now this area boasts some of New York's very hippest bars and restaurants. Prices and space are still reasonable.
